August 2014
On August 23rd, 2014, the Nations neighborhood in West Nashville hosted the Nashville Outlines Block Party, a one-day celebration of what it means to be a complete street in a world of incomplete roadways. Featuring live music, pop-up food and drink vendors, and partnerships with local establishments such as The Stone Fox (currently Red Bicycle), the event drew thousands of Nashvillians and helped to raise awareness about the need for more pedestrian- and bike-friendly streets in Nashville. Event organizers installed tons of traffic calming measures, including temporary bike lanes, small parklets, on-street parking, and enhanced sidewalks and crosswalks to highlight what the two-block stretch of 51st Avenue could look like in a world where all forms of transportation are given equal consideration. This event received a lot of media attention. For example, News Channel 5 and The Nashville Scene featured stories.
